Description

Sporting the same S23 capsule as the 023 Bomblet, the silver 1973 FET Microphone from Soyuz Microphones is a large-diaphragm condenser well suited for vocals, voice overs, and instruments. Offering the smooth response and punch of the Bomblet in a compact, transformerless design, the 1973 boasts the lowest noise of any Soyuz mic.

Featuring a new custom resonator, the 1973 reduces unwanted resonances and helps control plosives like Ps and Ts. The cardioid capsule includes two 33mm diaphragms, one gold sputtered, for highly detailed sound capture. The compact yet durable frame makes it easier to mic hard-to-reach places, like drum kits, while ensuring a lifetime of studio use. The 1973 includes a custom oak suitcase, a hand-machined shockmount, a mic clip, and a 10' XLR cable.

The Capsule
The 1973 features a version of Soyuz's own S23 capsule also found in their acclaimed 023 Bomblet microphone. The S23 is a completely unique capsule with a fascinating history.
In the early 1970s LOMO redesigned an AKG CK12 capsule, giving it three backplates to increase consistency. In 2015, Soyuz engineers redesigned it for the 023 Bomblet and have now further adapted it for the 1973, keeping the same smooth response and punchy character it’s become known for.

The Resonator
The 1973 features a custom resonator that reduces unwanted resonance and also adds a degree of plosive protection, making the 1973 extremely well suited for vocals, voiceovers, and podcasts.

The Design
The form factor of the 1973 makes it perfect for miking those hard-to-reach places and making it the perfect travel companion for any recording setup or live performance. The 1973 is solid, compact, and extremely durable, with a design intended to last a lifetime.

The Sound
The 1973 features a transformerless design and has the lowest self-noise of any Soyuz microphone. Nonetheless, it retains what many people call the Soyuz Sound, with lows that are present but not boomy, a midrange that's forward but not boxy, and a high end that's open and airy without being harsh.
