Modern circuit designs and unique power management tools deliver ultimate reliability and low running costs The SSL Origin 16 gives you the same iconic sound and extensive feature set as the Origin 32 console, but with half the channel count in a more compact and affordable package. The smaller size and reduced price make this console an ideal choice for small recording studios and budget-minded institutions such as high schools and colleges with audio engineering programs. Featuring classic SSL EQ circuits, the world-renowned Bus Compressor and new PURE DRIVE preamps, along with a modular center section with rack space for adding components, the SSL Origin 16 packs a ton of power and flexibility into a small footprint.
The channel strips on the Origin 16 are identical to its larger cousin. The PURE DRIVE preamps feature modern FET components for a classic analog sound with extremely low noise, and a Drive circuit adds musical-sounding harmonics. The new sweepable high-pass filter is fully variable from 10 to 400 Hz, while the four-band EQ section features low and high bands that can be switched from shelf to bell curves as well as two fully parametric mid bands. Both the high-pass filter and EQ circuit can be independently assigned to the channel or monitor paths as needed. Each channel also features two cue sends and four auxiliary sends.
As an inline console, the Origin 16 includes two inputs per channel: one for the recording path and one for the monitor path. Each channel strip features a discrete fader and insert for each signal path, making up to 32 individual inputs available for mixing. The center section, also identical to the Origin 32, includes the famous SSL Bus Compressor, along with flexible monitor and talkback routing, as well as controls for the 16 busses, four stereo returns, two cue sends and four aux masters. There’s even extra rack space for mounting additional outboard gear, a control surface such as the SSL UF8 or even a monitor right into the chassis.
If you need characterful analog sound in a scaled-down form factor but don’t want to sacrifice flexibility and features, this is the console for you.
