Designed for performing and recording musicians who demand studio-grade audio, the Grace Design ROXi is a single-channel microphone/instrument preamp and EQ that offers the same sonic performance as the company's reputed studio mic preamps, but packaged in a pedal chassis ruggedized to work onstage or mounted to a pedal board.

This all-in-one compact foot pedal enables singers and musicians to plug their favorite microphone or instrument into a Grace Design mic preamp. You can tweak and perfect your own sound onstage or in the studio using powerful controls including a 3-band EQ with sweepable mids, high, and low shelving EQ, and a 10 dB variable Boost. With your own effect pedals inserted in the FX loop, you can also control your reverb, wha-wha, distortion, and other effects, however you want. Two footswitches enable you to quickly activate the Boost effect or the FX loop and mute your signal when tuning. Flexible connectivity options include a balanced XLR DI output, dedicated tuner output, and a 1/4" amp output with separate level control. For international travel, the unit is powered via a universal 100 to 240 VAC power supply with standard IEC cable.

Connecting ROXi to Stuff
XLR Mic / 1/4" Line Combo Input
  • This input can accommodate any type of microphone—dynamic, condenser, or ribbon—via the XLR input, or any 1/4" mono instrument input via the center 1/4" phono jack. The 1/4" center of the combo jack is for connecting any instrument with a pickup, electret mic, or line-out jack to the ROXi.
  • The 1/4" instrument input of the combo jack can be used to amplify an electret capacitor microphone. These are common for applications where a small microphone is mounted inside acoustic instruments, or a clip-on lavalier-style microphone is placed somewhere on the outside of the instrument. ROXi can send 12 VDC from this input to power the electret mic.
XLR DI Output
  • This 3-pin XLR output is balanced and transformer isolated for sending signal to front of house, monitor console, or any mixer or interface. This output has a level-setting DIP switch. In the mic setting, the output is padded -26 dB to interface properly with mic-level inputs at the console, while the line setting is not padded for better level matching with line-level inputs at the console or interface.
1/4" Amp Output
  • The 1/4" amp output is for sending a balanced or unbalanced non-transformer-isolated output to a stage amp or anywhere else you may need an additional signal. It has the added benefit of a level control located on the top panel. This output is muted when the Mute/Tune footswitch is activated.
1/4" FX Send and Return
  • Send and return 1/4" jacks create a buffered, unbalanced insert point (preboost) for connecting outboard effects to ROXi. This allows mono outboard signal processing to be placed in series with the signal, while still utilizing all of ROXi’s output capabilities. The insert send has an adjustable pad if you are using an effect pedal with lower headroom.
1/4" Tuner Output
  • This 1/4" unbalanced output is always active and is intended as a dedicated stage tuner output. When Mute is activated, your stage tuner will continue to receive signal, allowing you to tune silently. The tuner output level follows the Amp Out level control.
9 VDC Power Output for Other Pedals
  • This output jack will power other 9 VDC pedals you may have at your feet. The jack is a standard 2.1mm BOSS-style, with the center negative. Maximum output current is 500mA, which means you need to add up the current draw of all the pedals you wish to power to ensure they don't exceed that value (a multiplug daisy-chain cable is available separately).
Universal 100 to 240 VAC Power Input
  • ROXi is powered by a universal 100 to 240 VAC power supply. This means that no matter where your musical wanderings take you, ROXi can plug into the wall and it will work. All units are shipped with a standard AC cable suitable for the country where it is going.
Shape Your Sound
Filtering and EQ
  • Use the high-pass filter (HPF) to tame any unwanted low-end rumble or stage noise that may find its way into your microphone.
  • The Low control is for adjusting the bass frequencies in your signal. This is a shelving-type control fixed at 125 Hz, which means everything below the 125 Hz is boosted or cut.
  • The midrange section of ROXi’s equalizer is semiparametric, which enables you control the midrange gain and frequency at a fixed Q factor. Use it to musically shape the sound of your vocals and most instruments.
  • The High control of the ROXi preamplifier is set with a 2 kHz. This is a fixed shelving type control, which means everything above the 2 kHz is boosted or cut. Simply put, this is a treble control. If you think your banjo may be too bright, turn this knob counterclockwise to lower the high frequencies. If you think your guitar needs a little more bite, turn this knob clockwise to enhance the treble.
Variable Boost Control
  • Want ROXi to go to almost eleven? This knob sets the amount your signal is boosted when you activate the BOOST footswitch. Fully counterclockwise is zero boost; fullyclockwise adds +10 dB of boost.
Pedal Chassis Build for the Rigors of the Stage
Metal and Aluminum Construction
  • ROXi is built to stand up to just about any kind of stage shenanigans you might encounter. All the pots have metal shafts and are securely mounted to the top panel. All the 1/4" jacks have heavy-duty metal bushings. The top panel is made of 1/4" extruded aluminum and the bottom chassis is made of heavy-duty aluminum.
