Description

  • 2 channels of API's patented award-winning compressor circuitry
  • The same compressor circuit originally designed into all API Paragon mixing consoles
  • Custom VU metering of both output and gain reduction
  • Linkable for stereo operation with true RMS power summing
  • Patented Thrust circuit preserves high-frequency material even during extreme compression
  • Variable Threshold, Ratio, and makeup Gain controls
  • Switchable metering of output level and gain reduction
  • Above-threshold LED indication
  • Switchable hard-knee or soft-knee compression
  • Fully balanced XLR and 1/4-inch inputs and outputs

  • The impressively versatile API Select SR22 Dual Compressor gives you two complete channels of API compression. In fact, the topology of the SR22 compressor includes the same amazing compressor circuitry that API included in their legendary ATPI Paragon and Paragon II mixing consoles. Each of the SR22's channels includes the patented "Thrust" switch, which prevents high frequencies from being crushed out of existence — even when you need to dial in serious compression at higher ratios. The SR22 particularly shines when coupled with other vintage-American-style processors, such as the API Select SR24 EQ. Its easy-to-use controls make finding the right sound quick and simple, and custom VU metering (both for output levels and gain reduction) lets you keep a close watch on your levels. You can use each of the SR22's channels as separate single-channel compressors or link them for ultra-smooth, true-stereo compression!

Based on the API Paragon P40 console
The API Select SR22 is based on the dynamics section found on the revered API Paragon mixing console. This console was a favorite of live sound engineers for decades, and it found its way on numerous top tours. The SR22 replicates the original design, including the automatic timing circuit, which automatically adjusts the unit's attack and release settings to an incoming audio signal. It also includes other handy features, such as switchable hard-knee or soft-knee compression and API’s celebrated Thrust circuit.

Thrust your way to greater dynamic control
Like API’s flagship stereo bus compressor, the API 2500+, the SR22 is equipped with API’s legendary Thrust circuit. A sophisticated side-chain EQ, the Thrust circuit inserts a low-cut and a high-boost EQ into the audio signal before it hits the side-chain detector. In practical terms, the compressor responds less to low-frequency information, facilitating a more even response for punchier mids, tighter lows, and a clearer top end. With the Thrust circuit engaged, you can hit the compressor harder to achieve greater dynamic control without audible pumping.

Link the channels for true stereo compression
The SR22 contains two fully independent compressor units in a single chassis, but you can link both channels for true stereo operation with the press of a button. When link mode is engaged, channel A’s Threshold, Ratio, Gain, Thrust, and Knee controls apply to both channels. Plus, the SR22 utilizes true RMS power summing to ensure that the compression is applied evenly to both channels.

API: an American pro audio legend
Launched in 1968 by Saul Walker, Automated Processes Inc. began building high-quality consoles for broadcast applications. Soon, the company’s products found favor with recording studios, and a string of industry-leading innovations (including the 500 Series module, the first VCA, computerized console automation, and more) followed. API produced the 2520 amplifier, one of the most famous op-amps in the recording industry, and their consoles and products found homes in such iconic studio facilities as the Hit Factory, Record Plant, Ocean Way, Sunset Sound, and many others. In fact, there are over 700 vintage API consoles around the globe — many of which are still in use. Clearly, the company isn’t resting on its laurels; today’s API and API Select products give you the same unbeatable combination of utility, innovation, and stellar sound.
